~ IN MEMORY OF MY 2 BEAUTIFUL GUINEA PIGS LADY AND PAGAN ~
****MY BEAUTIFUL PAGAN 2002 ~ 8TH FEBRUARY 2008****( Scroll down for Lady,s Euology )
My beautiful Pagan and Lady were rescues that i took in both together. Not sure of either of their birth dates but was told they were roughly a year old when they came to me. The person i got them from wasn,t sure if he and Lady were from the same litter but if they were Pagan was totally opposite to Lady. He was very loving and and would come to the front of his cage when i opened the cage door and put his head out for a tickle. He was also very nosey and always wanted to know what was going on,he had no fear of anything! One day i noticed he had,nt eaten his food or veg,Guinea,s sometimes go a day or so without eating if they,ve stuffed themselves too much so i did,nt worry too much. The following day he still had,nt touched anything,now i started to worry. I mixed up some sloppy food and syringed that into him,then phoned the vet thinking it was maybe a tooth problem(i had so many pigs with tooth problems at this time&was already syringe feeding another 4) I flushed his mouth out well with water before taking him to the vet so the vet could get a good a good look in his mouth. The vet said his teeth were fine and couldn,t really find much wrong but to be on the safe side he perscribed an antibiotic. A week on and he started to pick up,he began eating again but seemed to be having a problem with his hard grain mix,often getting it stuck and had to keep spitting it out. My worse fears were confirmed when i was told due to the week he hadn,t eaten his teeth had over grown. Not liking the idea of having my pigs anethatised to have their teeth clipped i know someone who can do this with no anasthetic. I would like to point out that my vet is very understanding of this,he has worked on so many of my pigs,and in fact when i was having to take them for him to put them down(it was just one after the other) he would get a lump in his throat and often couldn,t speak after he had done the deed so to speak. I was feeling very bitter at this time and often qustioned if there was a god up there and if so then why was he not just taking one or two of my pigs but ALL OF THEM!!! It really was one after the other NON STOP! This was to go on for nearly 4 years. I had 45 beautiful piggys and ended up with just 8 or 9 left. I asked the vet why this was happening to them and he said they had probably been in bred causing problems later on in thier lives(and boy was i finding that out) I can remember my parents and friend,s telling me at this time to stop taking them in as i was making myself so ill. I wasn,t eating,as i was syringing feeding so many at a time that by the time i had finished the last one it was time for the first one to be done again. I went down to 7 stone in wieght,but of course everyone else can see how ill you have become but you cant see it yourself. Back to Pagan....he had his teeth clipped and seemed to be doing well,then after a few weeks his tummy started to swell. I gave him some gripe water&a Rennie thinking it was bloat but by the end of the day he was no better. I phoned the vet at 5.50pm and had to get him up there by 6pm! My dad raced me up in the car with Pagan wrapped in a towel. The vet examined him and gave me the worse news possible,my beautiful baby,s kidney,s were failing and his stomach was filled with fluid. I remembered talking to him while the vet put the needle into him,but because of him having so much fluid the injection didn,t work,so he had to have 3 injections and even then he fought all the way,trying to get up one last time making it across the table to me, i put my arms down to him and he half climbed into my arms,resting his head on my arm before finally slipping away. He wanted to be with me when he died bless him xx That memory will always stay with me and breaks my heart each time i think of him xx He was such a loving little guy and bought so much joy into my life and i thank him dearly for that xx I still miss him so much,but i know he is at peace now playing with all his other piggy Angel Friends x God bless my darling boy, you will be in my heart forever,until we meet again my dear friend xxxx Love and kisses to you always xxxxxx Mummy xxxxxxxxx

****MY BEAUTIFUL LADY 2002 ~ 22ND NOVEMBER 2007****
Lady was the biggest Guinea Pig i have ever had wieghing in at 4 pounds! She was the size of a Dwarf Lop rabbit! It took alot of grooming to keep her coat tangle free. She was a very grumpy piggy,not sure if this was due to her being so big or from the previous owner who became fed up with her due to her long coat. I was told she was a year old when i took her in so her birthday became the day she came to me as i didn,t know her birth date. I put her with my other sow Holly(Now also gone to the Rainbow Garden) but she was so fat which made her lazy that Holly was eating all the food as Lady was too lazy to get up and go to the food bowls(yes she really was that lazy!!!) I put her in a cage on her own and she was doing really well. One day one of her eyes developed an ulcer,so i took her to the vets where some medication was percribed along with drops i had to put into her eye. Nicely got over that and she developed Cystitis,so it was back to the vet for more Medicine. Got over that and she then got bumble foot(due to how big she was she was actually too heavy for her feet!) Putting her on a diet made no difference she didn,t seem to lose any wieght at all! I had to keep her on towels or paper as the straw was too abrasive for her poor feet which had developed very hard callusses which i had to gently cut off from time to time. A few weeks later the Cystitis came back,and she kept having re accurring bouts of it. It became so bad that she wouldn,t eat so i had to syringe feed her. I syringe fed her for nearly 4 months and because of that she became very dependent on the syringe and wouldn,t go back to eating on her own. Its so difficult to know what to do for the best sometimes. As a result of her not eating on her own she wasn,t getting the proper food to keep her teeth down which resulted in them over growing and having to keep being clipped every few weeks. She had so many health problems but still kept going bless her x One day the Cystitis came back and we tried so many different things to help her but it just wouldn,t clear up this time. My darling girl had to be put to sleep,i was allowed to sit in a room with her at the vets for 20 minutes to say my goodbyes to her. She is buried in the garden along with all our other dear Angels xx She still had 3 lovely years with me and for that i am grateful. She is at peace now in a beautiful place with no pain,where she can live happily and healthily.God bless my darling girl,stay forever happy in the Rainbow garden and dont forget to wat for me at the Bridge x Until then i send you all my love and prayers xxx Love and thinking of you always my fat lady,with love always xxx Mummy xxxxxxx
